I have sat across from students who looked at me and said, “I don’t know how to read.”

Hi, I’m Joelle.

I’m a Special Education teacher and Literacy Specialist with over 16 years of experience teaching children how to read. As an avid reader and lifelong learner myself, I naturally found my niche in education helping students develop strong literacy skills. I am especially passionate about providing effective, research-based reading instruction for struggling readers.

Over the years, I have sat with countless students at my kidney table working through reading lessons together. I have also heard the words no teacher ever wants to hear: “I don’t know how to read.” Hearing that again and again, combined with the alarming literacy statistics in our country, brought me to a point where I knew I had to do something more.

That is how Turn Pages, Not Screens began.

This work is deeply personal to me. It is more than a project—it is a mission grounded in a simple belief:

Every child, regardless of the challenges they face, can learn to read and develop a love for reading. Reading is the key that opens the door to endless possibilities.

Thank you for being here and for helping bring this movement to life.

Sincerely,
Joelle Alexander O’Meara, M.S. Ed.
